Deep Diver Course

Deep

Some of the best recreational diving takes place in water deeper than 60 feet. Such dives include wrecks and walls. The Deep Diver course builds on the skills you acquire as part of the Advanced Diver course to help enable you to make these dives safely and more effectively. Among the topics you will learn:

  • The purpose, problems, hazards, planning, preparation, equipment (additions and modifications), air supplies, personnel, techniques, gas management, emergency procedures (including location and transportation to a hyperbaric chamber) and depth limits for recreational diving.
Deep Descent
  • Decompression-related topics include nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness (definition, cause, symptoms, signs, first aid and prevention) history of decompression, concepts, use of dive computers, definition of terms, problems, principles and techniques.
  • Complete coverage of Repetitive Dive Tables, work sheets, problem solutions, exceptions and dive planning are also included.
  • Altitude diving, flying after diving and hyperbaric chamber access and operation is included, as well as other short- and long-term deep diving hazards.

Who Can Enroll? This course is open to divers who are:

  • At least 15 years old.
  • Certified to the Open Water Diver level or equivalent.
  • Able to either answer No to all questions on the standard Medical History form or secure a physician’s approval prior to the start of class.
  • Minimum of 24 logged dives.

  • 4 dives past 60' within the past 12 months
  • Must have DAN Insurance.

What is involved? This course consists of:

  • Self study.
  • 1 classroom session.
  • 2 open water training dives.

Where and When?

When

Where and when do classes take place? Classes take place at the following places and times:

  • Classroom sessions take place Monday through Friday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Morning, afternoon, and weekend classes available upon request.
  • Open-water training dives take place Saturday or Sunday. These will either be in the Great Lakes or Gilboa Quarry.

Starting dates include:

  • May 17th, 2010
  • July 21st, 2010
  • August 23rd, 2010

How much does it cost? The course fee is $125.00 per person and includes:

  • Instruction
  • Certification Card

What equipment will you need? Students are responsible for supplying all of the equipment items listed below:

  • Mask, snorkel, fins.
  • Adequate exposure protection.
  • One cylinder per dive, per day.
  • Weight system, weights.
  • Buoyancy Control Device (BC).
  • Regulator/alternate air source.
  • Depth gauge/timer or computer.
  • Audible surface signal.
  • Surface signal (safety tube).
  • Cutting tool.
  • Dive tables and slate.
  • Reel.
  • Liftbag.
