Ice Diver Course

Ice

Why dive under ice? The reasons may surprise you.

  • Sites with poor visibility during warmer months can be amazingly clear when ice cover eliminates algae bloom and sediment stir-up caused by wave action.
  • Familiar dive sites can look entirely different under ice.
  • Your ice diving skills enable you to truly dive year-round, regardless of season or weather.
  • And, of course, bragging rights.

Diving under ice, however, presents all the risks and hazards normally associated with overhead environment diving — plus the additional hazard of extreme cold, both in and out of the water. This is why specialized training in ice diving equipment and procedures is so important.
