Assistant Instructor Course

Assistant Instructor training is the next-to-final step in the process of becoming a fully certified Open Water Scuba Instructor. Candidates learn the fundamentals of putting together academic, confined water and open water teaching presentations. Upon successful completion of this program, they are ready to enter the final Instructor training phase.

Who?

Who Can Enroll? This course is open to divers who:

  • Are at least 18 years old.
  • Are certified to the Dive Control Specialist level or equivalent.
  • Have logged at least 75 dives.
  • Have secured a physician’s approval for diving within the past twelve months, based on the standard Medical History/Exam form.

What?

What

What is involved? This course consists of:

  • Self study.
  • Serve apprenticeship time and do practice teaching.
  • You are required to coteach 2 Scuba Courses with an instructor.
  • Complete a watermanship evaluation.
  • Provide proof of current training in First Aid/CPR.

Where and When?

When

Where and when do classes take place? Classes take place at the following places and times:

  • Classroom and pool sessions take place at The Dive Shop. The Associate Instructor is to complete at least 100 hours of training. 
  • Open-water training dives take place Saturday and Sunday.

Starting dates include:

  • Dates and times are flexible based on the individuals schedule.

How Much?

How much does it cost? The course fee is $970.00 per person and includes:

  • Instruction.

Students are responsible for supplying all of the equipment items listed below, plus:

  • Associate Instructor Kit.
  • Associate Instructor Insurance Fee.
  • Processing Fees.

What Equipment?

Equipment

What equipment will you need? Students are responsible for supplying all of the equipment items listed below:

  • Mask, snorkel, fins.
  • Adequate exposure protection.
  • Weight system, weights.
  • Buoyancy Control Device (BC).
  • Regulator/alternate air source.
  • Depth gauge/timer or computer.
  • Audible surface signal.
  • Surface signal (safety tube).
  • Dive tables and slate.
