Tobermory

Map

August 14-15th, 2010:  Wrecks we frequently dive on this trip include:

  • Arabia - Depth 97-117 ft: This is the most intact shipwreck in the Tobermory area. It sank in 1884 after taking on water during heavy seas. The bow is something to see with its bowsprit, anchors, windlass and bilge pump. And much more.
  • Caroline Rose - Depth 55 ft: This 132 foot schooner was built in 1940 to be used for fishing. It was purposely sunk in 1990 as a new dive site. You can see the wooden hull and a spare propeller.

Diver

  • Forest City - Depth 60-150 ft: This three-masted schooner was converted to a steamer. In 1904 during dense fog it struck an island at full steam.
  • Niagara II - Depth 48-98 ft: This ship is intact and sits upright with all doors and hatches that have been removed. There are railings and passageways to help guide a diver along. There are a lot of areas to explore on this wreck.

Wreckage

Located at the top of Canada's Bruce Peninsula you will find Tobermory. This town draws divers looking to visit shipwrecks. There are even some wrecks you can dive from shore. Tobermory is a fun summer retreat.

Fathom Five National Marine Park and Bruce Peninsula National Park offer plenty to do for those that are not divers.
